For new build, extensions and refurbishments, where the walls are bare brick or block, a backing has to be applied before the finish coat. You have 2 choices: Float and set, solid wet plaster either sand and cement or a modern backing plaster like Browning or Hardwall. The other option is dry wall. This is plasterboard attached to the wall by mechanical fix (screws) or stuck on with adhesive (dot and dab). Both methods will achieve a final smooth flat finish ready for decoration. You may know which option you require or you can talk it through with us and then decide.
For older properties, you should check if the properties has been constructed using lime mortars and renders. Some may require you to maintain with the same. This is usually to allow the walls to breath and if no dpc or foundations allow the walls to move without cracking.
